Tourism Can Help Bring Income to Homeowners

VisitBritain has released a study that says other than tourism only financial and business service sectors are likely to grow faster in the next few years. Tourism could contribute to the UK economy by more than 188 billion pounds by 2020 if the government assists in tourism market problems.

Domestic and overseas visitors pump an estimated 115 billion pounds into the UK economy each year. The Olympics in 2012 will see an even higher amount of tourism spending. Most all sectors will see a surge from the Olympics as everyone from builders to bakers will be receiving tourism money.

Many homeowners are expected to take advantage of the Olympics and are converting large homes into parts to allow tourists to rent out areas or rooms during the event. Remortgaging for improvements and to get funds to invest in additional property has become popular, especially with the prices of property right now. With the need for rental property at an all time high, the home can still be a source of income long after the Olympics are gone.

VisitBritain is trying to build tourism for all to benefit in the UK, from retailers to part time job workers. The report stated that government needed to help the industry improve its ability to predict what types fo facilities will be needed by tourists. An increase modernization of hotels and consideration for older customers were deemed important in the study.

"The continuing low level of the pound and the approaching Olympics in 2012 give us a tremendous opportunity to promote Britains attractiveness as a destination to the rest of the world," said VisitBritain chairman Christopher Rodrigues.

The 264,000 jobs that are related to tourism could grow to 2.89 million in 10 years time according to the study.

The study was conducted for VisitBritain by Deloitte and Oxford Economics.
