BP Stocks Will Be Closely Watched On Monday

BP stock shares will be closely watched on Monday. What happens could set the tone for the entire week. BP Stocks lost ground after the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico occurred in April. This week the entire market felt the blow as did BP’s stock holders and BP’s peers. BP closed on Friday with the worse loss of anyone is already at a 14 year low.
Investors were watching Tropical Storm Alex as it developed off of the Gulf. They were worried that should the storm hit the area where the Deepwater Horizon exploded and left the oil well gushing into the Gulf’s depths of water that things that were already really bad could get much worse. Right now weather models show the storm strengthening and hitting the Texas and Mexico border area. Storm experts warn that things could change at any time. If the area took a direct hit it would take over 120 hours to evacuate the area and remove equipment out. Containment of the spill would end and would not be able to resume for at least 2 weeks as equipment was put back into place. If the storm heads the other way, winds and waves could still hit the area. In addition, winds moving in a now unusual westerly direction are moving the spill to areas that had previously not been touched by the spill. This is widening the clean up area. BP is not the only oil company in the area and the others including Shell are making preparations just in case. Also, BP is busy right now trying to drill two relief wells to help with containment of the oil. To be able to announce some good news, such as the relief wells are now in place and making a difference is the news that BP wants to announce. They need to have some good news come out of their office. With the BP Company already under deep scrutiny, another problem is not what they need. It will be interesting to watch how the markets react on Monday morning. With the G20 Summit, the storm looming in the Gulf, BP needing to continue the drilling of the relief wells, the need to continue the clean up efforts, it remains to be seen how investors will react and what it will mean for the market and economy as a whole.
