UK Housing Market Builds Optimism for Good Performance in Months Ahead

The UK housing market is holding its own against the gloom and doom forecasters that expected Brexit’s deadline to bring a chill to the market. However, before consumers knew that Brexit would be delayed until autumn, hopeful home buyers chose to take advantage of low interest rates and aggressive home sellers looking to part with their property. This has led many experts to be shocked as to the data revealing the optimism shown by mortgage borrowers.

It was expected that homeowners would be remortgaging to avoid rising interest rates and to keep from moving to their lenders’ standard variable rate (SVR). Yet, mortgage lending has shown growth in home mortgages as well.

There could be a few factors that could boost the number of buyers in the housing market to surprise experts more. One is a warning of expected interest rate increases. Another would be news that more properties are coming into the market. Other factors that could contribute to a boost are the spring weather that normally helps the market due to longer daylight, more people being outdoors, people feeling more optimistic as nature greens up the environment, and warmer weather.

The warmer weather will also allow home builders to get to work and finish projects and it will help homeowners complete projects they have planned before putting a property on the market. Both of these situations will help build the inventory of homes put onto the market for sale and that will help grab the attention of home buyers yet to find the right home or dream home for their needs.

Some experts do expect a cooling off because of the continued uncertainty that remains with the delay of Brexit. There are others though, that believe there are more optimistic reasons for hope home buyers to take action and that could lead the housing market to perform well in the months ahead.
