UK House Builders Affected by Results of General Election

An unexpected general election result could lead to uncertainty within the UK housing market, according to one housebuilder. Several housebuilders in fact have been negatively affected since the outcome was announced. Stock prices suffered for many housebuilders as the news spread across the country as election results became known to the public. Some experts have also predicted uncertainty prevailing following the election, but others have disputed the idea and feel the market will not be affected in any way.

Housebuilders are at the forefront of any and all growth within the housing market. The country currently faces a massive shortage of housing which will possibly become a major issue in the next three years. Housebuilders carry the torch for growth and must remain on a committed path of completions of projects. Elections with unexpected results could lead to uncertainty as some have predicted.

A sector which is not showing any signs of slowing down due to the general election results is the remortgage sector. Remortgages are still being relied upon for answers to questions of financial stress and strain which plagues many families and lives.

Stephen Stone, chief executive of housebuilder Crest Nicholson, commented on the latest news of possible uncertainty, saying: “The outcome of the UK General Election may introduce some uncertainty in the short term but we expect the new build housing market to remain robust. Strong levels of employment, low interest rates and good mortgage access – including through the help to buy scheme – should all contribute to a sustainable new build housing market.”

Stone added: "We are on track to deliver growth in revenue this year and are planning for the medium term as we progress towards our 2019 targets of £1.4bn sales and 4,000 homes.”
