UK Construction Industry Adheres to New Energy Efficient Regulations

The building regulations concerning zero - carbon construction plans has recently been issued by housing minister, Grant Shapps.  Criteria becomes more and more difficult as “fabric energy efficiency” is being constantly stressed.

As far as energy efficiency is concerned, the standards are clear.  Insulation must be adequate.  Double glazing is mandatory as well as other measures which construction firms can take to ensure the new property is energy efficient.

At one time there was a possibility builders were going to have to predict the emissions of the property they were constructing.  As that is seen as not a real possibility, Shapps rescinded the idea that construction firms needed to make the estimation.

As time passes and more discussion occurs regarding onsite carbon reduction, further recommendations will surely be made.  Suggestions regarding the use of onsite materials as well as off site methods to help pump up emissions cuts will certainly unfold.

Shapps discussed the responsibility the government bares, as well as the social commitment to green methods of construction, saying: "The new definition [for zero-carbon homes] will balance increased costs of house building with the social commitment we made to reduce our country's carbon footprint.”

House building firms will more than likely appreciate the clear cut environmental standards.  Although, Steve Turner, of the Home Builders Federation, has commented on the record that additional information is still needed in regard to the suggested changes of the construction plans.

New materials are constantly being tested for introduction into the construction industry, for use in new housing starts.
