Drought of New Property Listings for Sale Plagues UK Housing Market
A fall in new property listings for sale across the entire UK has many inside the housing market concerned for the months leading to the New Year. Overall, listings have dropped off almost 7% in the first two weeks of August month on month. Within the capital city it is even more drastic. New property listings have dropped almost 25% since the month of June, according to the latest data from housesimple.com.
According to housing experts, there is no real reason for the drop off in new property listings for sale. Many believe the end of summer will spark many and cause a frenzy of many new listings for buyers to check out. For those seeking to move home this summer, it has been quite a drought in selection.
Alex Gosling, CEO of online estate agents HouseSimple.com commented: "Across the country there are thousands of frustrated buyers, with finance in place, ready to purchase, but the property supply reservoir has dried up. They must be scratching their heads as to why sellers aren't marketing, as there's no clear or single reason why sellers are sitting on their hands. The General Election was expected to be the catalyst for sellers returning to the market.”
Gosling added: "We would expect to see activity drop off over the summer holidays, so September will give us a better gauge as to how imbalanced supply and demand are right now. The hope is that after a summer when supply fell off a cliff, sellers will rediscover their appetite over the coming months."
Many house owners choosing to sell have turned to the option of remortgage due to the savings on monthly mortgage cost and the ability to free up valuable funds stored in home equity.
