Celebrities and Bailiffs

The thought of the bailiffs knocking on our door is a frightening thought, especially when you are struggling to make ends meet and really need to hold on to your couch, cooker and bed in order to get from A to B each day.

While the whole process is no laughing matter, there is definitely some suspicion and arrogance when it comes to the world of celebs and how they end up having the bailiffs knocking at their door despite their multi millions.

Not that we are quick to judge and completely sympathise with anyone dealing with financial troubles, we just often wonder how so many celebs get themselves into so much financial trouble.

To delve into this a little bit more, we have been trailing the World Wide Web to find out what goes on when celebrities go from rags to riches.

Bailiffs for Mr Bovey and Ms Turner

In July 2009, Anthea Turner’s husband Grant Bovey faced the threat of bankruptcy. It was believed that Mr Bovey received legal papers from bailiffs when he returned to his £6 million property one evening.

Mr Bovey is believed to be the sole person responsible for the debts. It is believed he will be summoned to a High Court hearing and declared bankrupt if he fails to repay them. Mr Bovey saw his buy-to-let property company Imagine Homes fall with debts of over £50 million, with couple forced to sell their £5 million home in France and their £11.5 million mansion.

Suzanne Shaw plays hide and seek with the bailiffs

Miss Shaw maybe the perfect princess now, but just four years ago she was fighting the bailiffs as a result of a £200,000 debt.

Suzanne Shaw is now in the spotlight after winning Dancing On Ice and has just bagged herself a £500,000 deal for advertising Ultimo undies. And the smell of success couldn’t be any sweeter after he bitter split from Darren Day and the darkest debt problems she had to face alone. Shaw even went without food for days on end so her son Corey wouldn’t go hungry.

She told hello magazine, “When I split with Darren and he declared himself bankrupt a short while later, he didn’t have any money to give me.

“I was told by four different debt advisors that I had no option but to go bankrupt-O had debts of £200,000-but I refused.

“(I) literally crawled on my hands and knees on the floor, hiding, when bailiffs came knocking at my door. Sometimes I would give them £100, just to keep them off my back, against a £30,000 debt, but more often than but I didn’t have any cash to hand over.”

Bailiffs strip Jennifer Clarke of her clothes

Big Brother star Jennifer Clarke, received a lovely visit from the bailiffs after failing to pay up on her council tax, running a debt of up to £3,000.

And to compensate for this debt, the bailiffs took £1,279.50 worth of designer clothes and accessories.

The bailiff’s collection included Gucci trainers, Christian Dior and Louis Vuitton handbags and a Vivienne Westwood necklace. A friendly neighbour told The Sun newspaper at the time, “Jen has given up on her responsibilities since she left the house-she is too busy jetting around with Dale.

“It is shocking to not pay council tax for two years. She must have spent the money on designer gear instead of paying her bills.”

Doherty’s car is taken away by bailiffs

The charming Pete Doherty has lost his ninth Jaguar after failing to pay £170 road tax on the vehicle.

The singer’s car was taken away after bailiffs arrived at his East London home yesterday morning. He had only just purchased the Jag this summer after his others were impounded following a series of traffic offences. An onlooker said to the Daily Star, “Pete’s not exactly clever about this. For the sake of a couple of hundred quid he has now lost another Jag.

“It didn’t take them very long to get the car out of there. They winched the Jaguar up onto their trailer and away they went. The pound must be like a second-hand Jag showroom now. They seem to take one a month off him at the moment.”
